I often hear: “My face looks puffy. I drink water. Why is this happening?”
Lymphatic flow slows under stress. When nervous system feels unsafe, shoulders tighten. When shoulders tighten, circulation shifts. Fluid stagnation follows.
Manual lymphatic facial massage:
– supports detox pathways
– reduces swelling
– sharpens facial contours
– improves skin clarity
This is not aggressive pressing. It is precise rhythm.
You can see how lymphatic techniques are integrated into treatments on the [Facials page].
Morning puffiness, under-eye swelling, jaw heaviness — often connected to:
• posture
• chronic stress
• jaw tension
• shallow breathing
Sometimes the event that caused stress is already gone. But the body still stores tension. The face reflects it.
Facial massage helps the nervous system “notice” where tension is stored and release it.

[I’m 30 and Noticing My First Fine Lines — What Would Hanna Recommend?]
Hi, I’m Hanna — and this is one of my favorite treatments because it’s both gentle and deeply effective.
I approach lymphatic facial massage as a clinical technique, not a “spa add-on.” My medical background is a big part of why I’m so careful with pressure, rhythm, and the sequence of movements.
In a lymphatic-focused session, I’m looking at the whole pattern, not just the face:
– neck and collarbone area, where drainage pathways begin
– jaw and chewing muscles, because tension there can block flow
– shoulders and upper chest, because posture and stress often tighten this entire chain
Many people don’t realize that facial puffiness can start lower in the body — especially when shoulders are lifted from stress or the chest is tight from shallow breathing. When the body stays in that “guarded” position, fluid movement can slow down.
The goal of my work is to support your nervous system first — so the face can release hypertonus, lymph can move freely, and the skin can look clearer and more defined (without aggressive pressure).
Lymphatic facial massage is especially helpful for:
• first signs of aging
• stress-related puffiness
• screen-time tension
• mild asymmetry
In Charleston, if you’re looking for true manual lymphatic work, choose practitioners who understand anatomy — not just relaxation technique.
